The most terrifying piece for me is Fur Elise. I always fear I can’t live through hearing it yet again.

Alkan's prelude "mad woman on the seashore" is the most terrifying piece i've ever heard

Scriabin's 6th sonata is scary too! Also the story it portraits when you read what Scriabin wrote also add to the atmosphere

Suicide in an airplane by Leo Ornstein is a bit terrifying and disturbing

Vers La Flamme, no contest there. Alkan’s Chanson de la folle au bord de la mer, a close second.

The black mass sonata is certainly more famous, but it's worth noting that Scriabin actually wrote a piece that he himself was afraid of: His sixth piano sonata.

I find Ondine to be the "scarier" piece to listen to musically, but especially thematically, too. The "Scarbo" goblin-y character just sounds annoying, but "Ondine" instills real terror in my heart. Idk, a goblin dude dicking around my room in the middle of the night sounds more like an inconvenience than anything, a mermaid creature threatening to drag you down to the depths of a body of water is far spookier..

Shoutout to Baba Yaga

Rachmaninoff’s Isle of the death may not have the scariest chords but it creates the best ambiance and tension in my opinion

Prokofiev's Toccata is pretty spooky. I always imagine someone walking through the woods at night, but they get chased by a beast or monster of some kind.

Schubert's Erlkönig. It's not strictly piano but there is a transcription

Xenakis Keqrops is extremely heavy and dark. Also, Ustvolskaya Piano Sonata No. 6 scares even my seasoned pianist friends. Hope to see them both featured!

Prokofiev's 'Suggestion Diabolique' is pretty scary, although it's definitely not a subtle kind of scary.

Liszt - Nuages Gris
(Though late but it took till today to relize)
Though easy but the almost atonal makes it haunting. (The name translates to "Grey clouds")

The face he makes when he says terrifying is so funny 😂

The opening G major chord of Beethoven's 4th piano concerto 👻

Yes Scrjabins Black Mass Sonata is beautifully haunting in its opening theme. BUT: what about his 6th Sonata. It is in my opinion much more frightening music. Even the beginning is already some kind of sinister unsureness I love this piece. I ones heard that even Srjabin himself was frightened by his own composition and refused to play it. 👻

The Banshee, Henry Cowell. If you’ve never heard it, that thing is nightmare fuel
