This movie has one of my favorite bloopers where MIchael J. Fox would accidentally yell "Doc!" instead of his actual line.

"I guess that makes you... number one!"
Jake Busey at his creepiest! He's fantasticly deranged as Johnny Bartlett.

When Peter Jackson started making this he knew the CGI needed for the ghost was going to be important, so he sunk a lot of time and effort into building the group to do it, that group is now known as Weta Digital and have done work on everything, "The Lord of the Rings" to the "Marvel" movies and considered to be one of the best groups in the business.

Also, this movie is criminally underrated. It's a great mix of thrills and laughs.

My wife and I went to a horror convention a couple years ago and had the good fortune to meet the "weird FBI guy" Jeffrey Combs. He autographed my VHS copy of The Frighteners. He's really kind.

Johnny Bartlett is played by Jake Busey - Gary Busey's son. Nobody plays crazy better than his father

At this time Michael J. Fox was already suffering from the early stages of Parkinson's Disease. He was diagnosed 5 years before this movie came out, and had to hide it from everyone until 2000. In hindsight you can definitely see some twitches in Fox's performance.

When I was 10, my 17 year old brother took me to the movies to see Mimic. The theater quickly realized my brother wasn't old enough to bring me into an R rated movie so we saw The Frighteners instead. The theater employees helped us out that day

The FBI agent, played by Jeffery Combs also played the character of Weyoun in Deep Space 9, and Commander Shran in Enterprise. Weyoun has to be one of Star Treks greatest villains.

"I didn't get the FBI guy's deal..."
Ah, Jeffrey Combs 😅 He'll usually be the strangest character in any movie he's in (of which there are a ton). He's a horror icon, so I hope you'll come to love his weirdness as you see more of him.

Peter Jackson made this film!
In fact, the VFX artists of WETA Digital Ltd gave him the idea of making the Lord Of The Rings Trilogy.
Robert Zemeckis was going to direct this movie, but was too busy working on the epic Sci Fi Drama CONTACT.
It was originally going to be a Tales From The Crypt movie, but it was turned it into a standalone film instead.

The Judge who you said reminded you of Doc Brown is actually played by John Aston who is Gomez Addams in the Addams Family series and the father of Sean Aston who was Sam in LOTR.

The CGI of rippling cloth was a breakthrough feature at the time. That's why so many scary scenes just use a cloak for the evil spirit.

"What did I just watch?" Yeah, it's a strange movie. A lot going on at once without a ton of exposition. Structurally, it's pretty weird. Super fun and quirky though. Perfect for Halloween.

Who else agrees that R. Lee Ermy is probably actually doing this in the afterlife? 😅😢❤
