In today’s video, we go over the difference between negative reinforcement and punishment as well as give examples of positive punishment and negative punishment. Negative reinforcement vs punishment can be confusing terms in ABA. Do you know the difference?
Reinforcement, even when it’s negative, will always increase behavior. In contrast, punishment always decreases behavior. In positive punishment, you add an undesirable stimulus to decrease a behavior. In negative punishment, you remove a good stimulus to decrease a behavior.
