The 12 Multimedia Instructional Principles are intended to help you make better #onlinelearning materials. These videos will include some explanation of the principles alongside examples both positive and negative that I hope will help make things clear for you.

The 12 principles were developed by Richard Mayer from his integration of three key theories in educational psychology. These are Sweller’s Cognitive Load Theory, Paivio’s Dual Coding theory, and Baddeley’s model of working memory.

From the combination of these, Mayer produced the Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning

Hi Mike, thank you for this informative video :) Like many teachers currently, I have been producing distance learning videos. It is great to be reminded of the theoretical structure from which to produce resources. These 12 principles are a clear list of success criteria from which we can self-assess the materials that we produce.

I loved the work you've done on Mayer's multimedia principles, haven't you considered sharing them under a Creative Commons license?
