Say Icbm in particular and not ballistic missile.
Also THAAD and patriot aren't the only Anti ballistic system in US arsenal, the GBI can go upto Mach 30 and specifically made to intercept Icbm.
Then we have RIM 161 BLOCK IIA which is also an icbm interceptor.
Do more research about US navy's AEGIS BMD

Speed is main issue.... Lazer can do but range is sort, weak energy and take time to cook the missle...

Actually usa has the largest icbm stockpile. And have the most nuclear submarines. The missiles used by subs that use multiple re entry vehicles. Minitman is also mach 23.

I think HVP shot from howitzers can be shot to stop ballistic missiles.

SALT 1 & 2 prevents anti-mirv'ed missiles.

Using missiles with a warhead is not effective as mounting chemical lasers on missiles so each missile can shoot down many other missiles.
