Pedestal Table Leg Repair with Vector Clamping | Woodworking How To #Restoration

Показать описание
Pedestal table legs can come loose over years of use. These are not simple to glue back in place. Watch how to take loose pedestal table legs apart and reinstall them to restore a rock solid table base.

Once the pedestal table legs are taken apart and the old glue is scared off, the real challenge starts - how to clamp these legs to get a tight fit. Because the legs are curved, there isn't a flat surface to clamp them in place. This is where clamping cauls need to be made. This is what's called "vector clamping" in the woodworking world. The process of making cauls that puts the face of the clamp parallel to the joint that needs the clamping pressure.

When I see someone do a dry fit first, I know the repair is going to be good. I like your vector clamping blocks.

You and your channel are amazing. You cover everything that I would ever need to know about how to work with old furniture, what kind of glue, what happens when the dowels have broken off, what happens when somebody else has already tried to fix it - And you have awesome tools. Thank you for putting your experience and skills and knowledge on YouTube and sharing it. Stay well.

Your video is very useful and well executed. My only "critique" would be for you to speed up some of the wood cutting and glueing processes and to explain more in depth that second block of wood that you cut for the other side of the vector clamping. But thank you for posting this.

Wow! I thought I could just put some glue and let it set, with some tape to hold the parts together... Now I know I need to find a professional because I don't have any of the tools you've used. This video was very instructive and well made. The table thanks you!
