Fleeces. We all own one, or at least have owned one at some point in our lives, and they've become a real staple of outdoor pursuits. Why are garments made from fleece so darn popular then? Well, because it really is a wonder material, as this video will prove to you.

As an early 20 something my winter uniform included polartec Aleutian fleeces. Throw on a heavy denim over them to block more wind or a waterproof shell when required and you were fine even at - 5 deg C. Still remember trekking home in the snow from a night out wearing my trusty Lowe Alpine fleece and mitts. There were no taxis so myself and a mate decided to walk about 15km along back roads but I was toasty. I still have those fleeces over 2 decades later. The only thing I ever needed to replace on them was the elastic drawcords.
