Makes sense that they announce Xcode in front of developers live and use Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro to get consumers more excited for WWDC.

I just bought Lumafusion 😠. $5 a month and $45 for an annual subscription. The whole point of having Final Cut is because you don’t have to pay a subscription. Apple finally did what we wanted but found a way to make us hate it.

As a developer.. would like to see VS Code on iPad Pro and the ability to run possible editable docker containers or the ability to run php/msql/node .. maybe even element inspect in Safari..

If you have purchased them for MacOS will it be a free download or do you have to buy the iPadOS in addition to?

Been waiting this forever, ended up switching to DaVinci.I think they could have made a deal for the Final Cut/Logic/Motion owners rather than a monthly subscription, this is why I got rid of Adobe a long time ago.I have been using DaVinci studio on Mac Studio and IPad Pro .It’s a power house.Remember Final Cut users that Apple rarely updated it or added new features. We’ll have to see how this works.

Thanks for the update! Didn’t know this and it’s great! Hope to record my electronic drums trough midi. Can you use Logic for the monthly price on Mac also? So you can switch between devices?

The issue with the subscription is that those who've paid for it for mac now need to pay for it for the iPad (monthly). If you're editing video that will generate the annual subscription cost within the project you're most likely using cameras that will need to be plugged in to sync video, external drives for back up and a good monitor for colour correction/proxy playback view. Second how well will the iPad deal with the thermal load of editing high quality/large file sizes and how long will the battery last? We already know phones and ipads, to some extent, get hot when running intense workloads so will this turn into an iPad being docked and plugged in to stay alive and connected to all the peripherals or is it more an update for making Shorts/Reels/Tiktoks? Finally we all know the iPad isn't used for shooting video because it's not designed to be held ergonomically when filming compared to a phone/camera so importing video will still need to be a part of the workflow. As you mentioned the craze behind getting FCP on ipads has only come from tech YouTubers and not real world videographers, at worst a top of the line MacBook Air + FCP will do everything the iPad can and more.

I would love to see Apple rework iDVD as a utility for the video producer that wants to burn to a flash drive, Apple TV or Amazon Firestick.

One important note: these do NOT require M1 iPads. For Logic Pro, it only requires an iPad with an A12 (so even a basic 2020 iPad will be able to run LogicPro)!
Keep to the native synth, sampler and effects (which are already amazing, and or utilize efficient third party synths such as Zeeon or the like, and you’ll be golden for quite a while even with a super basic iPad from a year or even three years ago)…

Very exciting. I do worry about them also pushing subscription model for software.

How do you not see an issue with a subscription? Do you not already own Final Cut and Logic? That you already paid $500 for?

Playing down the subscription makes this sound like an ad. When the hardware maker supports this, it changes the paradigm of what the device's purpose is. Those that have the full app now also have to pay for a sub to access some features that the full price doesn't have. Yuck!
