One of my favorite moments is when Jay learns some Spanish after Gloria complains about not having anyone in her own house to speak Spanish with. He tries real hard to say something nice in Spanish and she just cracks up and says "Finally, you sound like the stupid one!!" Multilingual people deserve so much more respect than they get.

I love how she always handles how people turn everything she says into something sexual. That women knows herself really well. She is totally aware of how people perceive her & react to her. So she is able to ride their projections with grace & laughter. Never missing a bit or act offended, making the whole thing a pure comedic delight. She is a real personification of "what matters is how one reacts to things". I want to cultivate that. I want to become like her, because I tend to freeze when I make mistakes or when people get me wrong.

I know Sofia and Julie are best mates .But my respect for Julie went high when she decided not to join others who were laughing at Sofia and twisting her "tongue" statement. BFF goals!!!

Never in my life I have heard an American who speaks and pronounces Spanish correctly, so I don't understand why they criticize Sofia like that.

Y'all hating on the lady in Pink/Julie/Claire, she had her face like that because she didn't like the tongue thing being twisted like that. I love her and she is one of my favourite actresses in the show!

Some “Americans”are soo ignorant, thinking that an accent defines your intellect or education. People in other countries speak, learn and go to colleges in their native language, like you with English. Some “Americans” really needs to be travelers ( not tourists) and also needs to try to learn other languages.

It’s honestly admirable that at this point she still hasn’t lost her accent, because that means she knows her roots, she knows herself, and she’s not easily alienated by what other people say or by learning a new language, she stays true to her identity

The lady in pink was just worried with why everyone sexualizes everything she said

What’s funny is my mother isn’t Latin. She’s Asian. She is a Filipina. She has quite a thick accent. She loves Sofia Vegara because she loves how she is so confident with her accent and how funny she is just by being herself. She admires her but I love it because they are from different parts but relate in a sense.

Sofia has become one of the highest-paid actors in television speaking a language that is not her mother tongue. If this is not remarkable, I don't know what is. She is absolutely right to be unapologetic about her accent, just like the great Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz are.

Anyone that has learn a second language and has lived in a country that speaks it can understand the struggles that she is trying to describe. I think this is why the person in the audience asked the question. I think she admires the fact that she has been able to get this far with her accent and she wonders if she ever actually try to change it (as we all do when we r trying to assimilate)which we now know it would have been a mistake to do so. Really feel like this shouldn’t have been a funny clip because she is truly trying to describe a very real struggle. Btw ur tongue actually curls according to the language your mostly speak, so speaking a language as an adult and doing so without an accent is quite challenging.
