People don’t seem to realise overhead compartments are first come first serve. Sometimes you want your luggage to be right at your seat for quick access.

I once saw an airline overbook a flight and the last ones to board were essentially kicked off and then they had to wait for hours till the next available flight for their destination

Not queuing to board will result to no overhead storage near you. Domino effect is that you'll get your bag late, then will be at the back of the line for immigration. If that's the way you want to live your life, go right ahead. But queuing will be more efficient and you'll spend less time in the airplane and airport combined.

Since we are all on the subject of flights and boarding:
Overhead space is the problem.There are way many people who put things on the overhead that are NOT carry-ons such as jackets, plastic bags, 50 tiny purses, their big backpack when they already have a carry on, a carry-on that is way too big to be one etc. They should be FOR SMALL AND REASONABLE CARRY-ONS ONLY!
If this is you, I wish you an inconvenience on every flight you take tenfold!!

Don't make the mistake of not queuing if your flying short haul.

I thought I was being clever by watching everyone queue in the departure lounge from my comfy seat... But when it came to taking my allocated seat there was no space in the luggage racks for rows and rows. When the flight landed I had to wait for about 10 rows behind me to leave before I could get my bag. That meant I wasted a good 5-10 minutes in the plane and I was near the back for the customs queue...

I was always the guy in this situation. Went on holiday with my mate last month who is the opposite; we chilled a little too much and missed the boarding by 15 mins. Now I’ll be queuing up aggressively and re checking the gate number constantly for the rest of my days

As an Indonesian with shitty airlines/airport, I ALWAYS stand around before the annoucement to board.
I travel domestic maxed 20 flights a year, saw so many victims of missed flight due to sitting around and not checking every minutes. And so many close call on my part as well...
