It wasn't a publicity gimmick, at least at first not. Several high profile churches took the film to task for its depiction of Santa. Then the news networks picked up on it. It was in limited release when the controversy started, but actually saw its screen count increase as the controversy raged on. The distributor went all in, promoting the film as the victim of censorship, in spite of the raised awareness and availablility of the movie BECAUSE of all the noize. The entire ordeal was just about as punk rock as it gets.

Great review! I was actually surprised to have learned that this came out the same day as the original Nightmare on Elm Street did on November 9, 1984. I've seen it a few times and it's good and all! The deer head kill was the best!

my personal favorite and was actually pulled out of theaters when it was first the going to pieces documentary, they show the people protesting outside the theaters.

I do love the first two Silent Night, Deadly Nights but this year I'm going to try and watch 3-5 as well. Thanks for the review.

I just picked it and Part 2 up yesterday after watching numerous reviews and the notoriety of it and it's that of its first sequel. It really didn't let me down....holy heck I love it...

Also what's the deal with guys named Billy losing it on Christmas!? 😂
