Do You Need An Alt Character for Raiding in FFXIV?

I've been setting up my alt for raiding this past week and it's been a ton of fun! I talk about that experience in this video and we discuss if it's worth it to make an alt in Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail!

Another possible method to pass crafted gear from one alt to another is by selling it as a set via mannequins. You don't have to be in the same FC for this and you don't even have to be on the same server. I passed gear from my omnicrafter on Materia to alts on every other data center since they can all DC visit to OCE. You'd need housing (or even an apartment if housing is too scarce on your server), a mannequin item, and enough available retainer slots to hold all the pieces of gear. Put the gear you want to transfer on the mannequin for a cheap price and make SURE that selling as a set is checked. As long as it's sold as a set, players on the MB can see it but they can't snipe the purchase unless they travel their character to the housing your mannequin is located in.

The MOST efficient way to cap on weekly tomestones is HUNT TRAINS! One train will nearly cap you on heliometry tomes. Not to mention they are a great way to earn Gil. You can cap on Aesthetic tomestones, and sell the materials bought with them, or just sell the materia you can get from the clusters.

2:40 it's wild to me that the devs have been confused at why people have alts when they literally designed the system to limit the loot people can get on one character. Like... come on.

Hey Vit keep up the great content. One thing about the weekly tomes is doing hunt trains. Just one train almost fills the weekly limit. Which is less than an hour to complete. Not sure if that's something all players enjoy but it is time efficient imo. Faloop discord ftw!

Another reason to have an alt would be if you have a weekend static and dont want to gimp a chest for your group

For those who aren't averse to buying boosts, DT is probably the fastest expansion to speed run through. All the dungeons and trials except for the last one in the MSQ have duty support and there's almost no actual gameplay elements so you just skip cutscenes most of the time and move on to the next NPC to talk to. I currently have 5 leveled alts, each with 2 lv 100 retainers and each patch with raids, I have 4-5x more tomestones to use for crafter gear materials. You can also easily get ALC or CUL on each alt and get 1m per 17 days via levequests.

Statics also use alts to get BiS faster. Since they added the ability to trade "down" 4th fight books, you can get BiS in 4 weeks with alt splits (unless someone needs both 3 shine and 3 twine, but that doesn't really happen).

I split my classes over two characters for several reasons. One has caster/healer only jobs and the second has tank/melee (not a fan of ranged). yes extra raid, more glamour space etc. BUt it also puts me in the zone of sorts where my mentality slighty changes between the two.

You do you but you can always just label it a parse or fun run and raid as much as you want. People do that all the time and its easy to find groups. Or if you want to try alternate rotations or learn the fights on an alternate job just join prog groups and help others clear. Almost everyone struggling the first time is ok with a 1 or 0 chest if it means they get the clear.

Edit: Didnt hear the part about trying to gear multiple jobs simultaneously so you have more options when Ultimate arrives. That makes sense.

I like to think of myself as a Bard player, but the last time i played bard in anything above ex was 2 years ago. Vids like this inspire me to keep grinding ou ton my alt since im not phys ranged in my static. 😤

I leveled an alt on a whim in EW. I went through the entire story, unlocked everything again (skipping CSs but otherwise, full effort). Recently I decided to level crafters on it as well because I like the grind. I raid on it more casually as well. Primarily it's just nice to have a character that I can play on with friends without sabotaging their loot.

I don't understand how people say this tier is the easiest one. Asphodelos was the most brain dead that has ever existed. Erichtonios was easier than most extreme fights. The fact that DPS checks are more linient doesn't make a fight easier, it's the mechanics

you can use an alt for more retainers to make more gil passively, you do need to have access to an FC chest or a friend to send stuff between tho.
