She just doesn’t want to play Mary Sue and I totally get it. Emily Blunt is one of the most underrated actresses ever. She can play anything! From campy comedy to violent thrillers.

A wise YouTube commenter once said "what we need isn't strong female characters, it's strong characters who happen to be female"

A Quiet Place is a beautiful example of healthy Masculine and Feminine co-leads. They're just decent, capable people overcoming an overwhelming evil. Emily Blunt portrayed one of the strongest women I've seen in recent film as a wonderful, competent mother and wife.
Both parents were kick-ass in that movie, but I especially love her role. She's not a tough, toxic, jaded man in a woman's wig like so many other female leads are in Hollywood. She's awesome specifically because she's a kick-ass mom, not despite it.

I mean, she's right. A lot of female protagonists written nowadays forsake the idea of being feminine as if it's some horrible characteristic for a female character and instead the writers try to achieve the same kind of "toxic masculinity" the writers claim to despise by making them less flawed and lacking depth.

That Korra praise was greatly unexpected, but is also greatly appreciated.

She has a good point. Many people think “strong female lead” just means “female who is strong” but it should mean “strongly written female character”

She really displayed this on sicario, were she's a tough woman but in certain situations very vulnerable.

She's not wrong. Hollywood has this idea that a strong woman needs to be emotionless and use male characters as a punching bag. In reality, though, a strong female character would be someone that overcomes flaws. I've seen this the best in video games. Kitana, Ellie, Jill Valentine, Claire Redfield, Lara Croft, Tifa Lockhart, etc.

Funny considering She Hulk was pretty much a Marry Sue who’s only conflict was finding wifi and being catcalled

My wife is one of the toughest people I know, been through some of the worst things a person can ever be put through. She's also one of the most feminine girls I know, takes like 2 hours to get dolled up just to go grocery shopping, lol. But I love her so much more. Being more masculine doesnt equal being stronger. We all have our strengths and weaknesses, the key is finding someone that complements who you are.

Look no further than her performance in Edge of Tomorrow (also called Live Die Repeat). Her character is strong and badass, but she isn't invincible, and she has a lot of emotional depth. If you've never seen it definitely check it out, it's one of my all-time favorites and pretty underrated imo.

"Strong female character" is just code for "Character with actually toxic masculine traits and also boobs"
