What ARE First and Double Strike?

First Strike and Double Strike are two of the only rules in the game that, when invoked, actually alter the entire structure of a turn! You get a whole extra step in combat! Crazy! We made this little video to explain what that means.

Here's the other mechanics we mentioned in the video:

We'll have more of the What is...? videos coming out - if there's a particular mechanic you want to see explained, let us know in the comments!

If i have a 3/3 first strike blocking a 6/3 creature, Does that mean that my 3/3 with first strike kills the attacking 6/3 before he could do his damage?

So basically, creatures with double strike also have first strike, they can just deal damage twice. Correct?

Here a question me and my wife have been going at it for a while. Say a 2/2 blocks a 2/2 double strike. Its obvious that the 2/2 blocker dies. Our debate is, does the double striker get a free attack at the life points or does the attacker not get to swing again cause his defender is gone?

But what if an opponent has a response that would exile or destroy your card with first strike? Do you still get a hit first

If i have an 8/8 creature that is attacking and my opponent has 2 4/4 creatures with first strike and he blocks with both of them. Does the the first strike of both units attack first to kill off the 8/8 creature before he does any damage or, does the battles go into each individual monster blocking? What i mean is, the First blocker block the monster doing first strike then after the first strike step the attacking monster hits it killing off the first blocker. Then moves onto the second first stike blocker and dies from his first strike?

What if I have a first strike card, and the defender has flying? Does that first strike attack the flying defender?
Also, does a defending flyer receive damage from non flying attackers?

Can anyone please explain, if I play a double strike that’s 3/3, my opponent attacks me with a 3/3 and I block with the double strike card that’s 3/3, does that mean both cards are dead???

Thanks uploader I have another card. You can all run but you all can not hide from the Trinity of light 🖕 sorry for sounding so dramatic. I'm going to destroy everyone because for some reason I can't retire? 👽👁️🙏
