In the mid-1990s, Dave Axland and Dan Proctor joined Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw in Nebraska to build the game-changing Sand Hills Golf Club. In 1998, Axland and Proctor debuted a design of their own: Wild Horse Golf Club in Gothenburg, Nebraska. Andy Johnson and Garrett Morrison discuss the virtues of this accessible, affordable, and beautiful course.

Thank you for this wonderful flyover and your insight on design. Everything fell together on this project.

Great course and great staff. In June of 2019, I played it on a calm, warm day... and then a few days later with strong winds, and and cold. It played very differently. Enjoyed the challenge both times. Thanks for the video... and the memories it brought.

On the calm day, I hit a 7 iron to the 9th green, the next time it was a 5 wood!!! Wind and weather really changes the challenge since it is wide open to the plains.

This is a great course. Absolutely beautiful fairways and greens. It was built by the community. This is a great stop-iff on the way to other courses in the sandhills

Played this course on a foggy morning. Really added to the already spectacular scenery. Great course!!

If only we could have public courses of that quality in France!

I'm not sure the variable winds were mentioned. A two day trip here could yield seeing the course in several different wind conditions. How those winds interact with one's strategy is what makes for great sport and freedom.

I've been lucky to play Sand Hills 3 times and Wild Horse probably 10. Sand Hills is magical and Wild Horse I'd put up against any track. Having said that, why in God's name did they allow a few houses built around no. 10/11 at Wild Horse?
