RIP John Hurt . Great actor . I have been watching various news reports on tv about his sad passing . None of them have yet mentioned the role which arguably brought him most attention, and for me is his finest acting performance - that of celebrated gay man, Quentin Crisp in The Naked Civil Servant . For those who haven't yet seen this 1970 s British television production, then do yourself a big favour .

A fabulous actor who will be sadly missed by everyone who saw him perform. Sleep well Sir John and thank you for the many great memories your wonderful performances have left behind. I hope your loved ones and friends can take solace in the knowledge you will never be forgotten by the millions of people you entertained in your wonderful career.

The Elephant Man...
Such a beautiful and heartbreaking movie, one of the characters with whom I empathized more in the history of cinema.

Hazel from Watership Down. The Horned King from the Black Cauldron. John Merrick from The Elephant Man. Aragorn from the animated Lord of the Rings film. The Narrator from The Tigger Movie. Mr. Ollivander from Harry Potter. The Great Dragon from Merlin. Harold Oxley from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. And The War Doctor from Doctor Who.

These are the roles I will remember him for, the man who gave true meaning to the word actor. It didn't matter if the role was small or big, whether it had to do with movies or television shows, or if it gave him a large pay packet or a tiny one, he would give each and every character he played his all.

Rest in peace, John, and thank you.

After seeing him die so many times on screen, it's both so sad, but still a bit funny, that he won't be able to die anymore times. Farewell, John Hurt, and may you rest in heaven, sleep in paradise, feast in Valhalla, be reborn, be laid peacefully in the earth to rest there forever or whatever else you believed would happen to you after you were gone. You probably know what have happened to you by now, but we will never know your like again. Rest In Peace, John Hurt, one of the greatest actors who ever lived.

Yeah, caught this on "Bing". Truly devestating. First Miguel Ferrer, then Mary-Tyler Moore, now the great John Hurt. R.I.P. Sir John. :(

There are so very few actors who can do what he did. He made every person he played real. I dont know about you but there are tons of movies that I did not know it was him. Yes his voice does give him away but for the most of my life I just watched movies for what is in the film. The Elephant Man still moves me to this day.
