I remember there being a time when I was 100% sure Odyssey would get DLC and now I'm worried we're never going to get odyssey gameplay ever again

Shoot, sorry guys, I left Super Mario Odyssey 2 in the trunk when I was unpacking groceries and it melted. My bad.

I am absolutely stunned they didn't release a new Mario game around the time the film game out and was shattering records.

One possibility that you haven't brought up: It IS coming, but they held on to any announcement or trailer up until now to avoid casting any shadow or distract from Tears of the Kingdom. It's best to have only one major title in the spotlight at a time so as to keep the public's attention focused on it.

Every time I watch this channel, which I love, by the way, I can’t help but think to myself, this man really built a whole brand out of being the Cookie Monster

THATS WHAT IM SAYING! My cope these past few years was that it was just being held for around the Mario movie but nope, no 3d or 2d Mario in sight

It’s so weird to me that they’re not capitalizing on the Mario Movie by selling a game. Like, it doesn’t have to be a tie-in, just any new mainline Mario would make so much sense, and it would sell like hotcakes. I think if we don’t hear of the next game by the end of this year, it’s definitely safe to say that they’re saving it for the next console

I wasn't big on odyssey the first time I played it cause I found it to be too easy, but after a subsequent playthrough where I engaged with all the extended hat throwing mechanics it's one of my favorite games of all time and I think one of the greatest video games. I feel like it isn't as talked about as a lot of other games these days which is unfortunate, I think it's a masterpiece

Odyssey is too damn good not to get a sequel or at least a spiritual successor.

THANK YOU! This is the longest it’s been since an actual new 3D Mario. I was in 7th grade when Mario odyssey came out. Now I’m graduating high school next week. I wanna play some new real Mario.

I think one of the other things to consider is Miyamoto himself. The man has been reported to deny or delay games himself if they don't have that certain gimmick or feel that he is looking for. That's the biggest reason why we've never had another F-Zero game and why Star Fox Zero was the way it was. His stubbornness with games always having to have their own thing I think is both good and bad. Good that we tend to get quality games, but bad in that sometimes we wait forever for something to finally come out.

I love every 3D Mario game to death, but it confounds me that there are real, sentient human beings who think Odyssey is a bad game while Sunshine is a masterpiece.

The reward for finding every korok in Tears of the Kingdom is a copy of Super Mario Odyssey 2

I think it's being saved as the first big game for the next system. It makes a lot sense if you ask me. Despite the lack of games at the moment, the Mario franchise itself is keeping itself very relevant with the movie, while in the meantime, they save a killer app for their next system.

I'd also bet a new 2d Mario is in the works. I can possibly see the 2d Mario being on Switch and maybe even cross-gen.

I had a theory about this a while back. I believe that Bowser's Fury was, at some point in time, the next 3D Mario game after Odyssey. Then, sometime during development, the team decided that for whatever reason it wasn't going to work as a full game. So they decided to take what they made, turn it into Bowser's Fury, and sell it alongside the 3D World port. After that, development on the next 3D Mario game basically restarted, which is why we haven't heard anything yet.

Honestly, I think Bowsers Fury was like a demo for what they want to do for the next Mario game. A completely, new, open world, interconnected Mario game. Where all the worlds are connected together and all have many individual puzzles and platforming challenges just like Bowsers Fury. If that’s what they’re doing, I’m all on board

Honestly, I feel like a lot of people forget that while Galaxy and 3D Land got direct continuations, they also did do a remake of 64 on the DS with a decent bit of new content, which means that out of all 5 of the non-direct succesor 3D Mario's, which would be 64, Sunshine, Galaxy, 3D Land and Odyssey, that's 3 out of 5 where they've done some kind of revisit, and that's not's even counting Bowsers Fury, which heavily used 3D World assets. It might not seem like much, but it does increase the likely hood a fair bit that Odyssey 2 could be a thing, on top of the insane potential it has.
