Have you ever seen a cat jump onto a counter covered in aluminum foil and immediately leap back down in a panic? It’s a pretty common reaction among cats. Many cat owners use this trick to keep their furry friends off furniture and other high spots.

So, why do cats react this way? It’s probably because the shiny, reflective surface of the foil confuses them.

It may be that the texture an shine confuses them, but it makes more sense that they get startled by the noise, causing them to jump back as a survival instinct. Cats want to be sneaky and make no sound so even after they find out that the foil is harmless they would not walk on it.
