Another big difference that I don't really see talked about, is that Dan was sponsored by a subscription. Something you sign up for with a credit or debit card. Something a parent would have to agree to, and, at least when I was growing up, something like this would be researched before agreeing to a *subscription*

What Lunchly is doing is trying to compete with Lunchables, a storebrand. Something you can buy with cash. I dunno what kid is being given a credit card for a monthly snackbox, but I and many other kids growing up were given a cash allownace, and when your brain is developing at that age, and you think "wow these big popular super stars are advertising this", you instantly associate that with "it MUST be good! Especially because they're SAYING its good! Wow!"

The big problems are the marketing, the accessibility, and the fact that, afaik, two of the three big marketers behind Lunchly are currently caught up in huge controversy, with the third one deciding to join them by letting a single tweet from DanTDM live in his head rent free.
