Public Health Surveillance

Public health surveillance is about more than just infectious disease epidemiology. It can include health surveillance on non-communicable disease, health service usage etc. Importantly it is about how health data is collected and analysed so that it can inform public health action and policy. It includes active and passive surveillance. Examples of surveillance include infectious disease notification (so, for example, all confirmed cases of COVID-19 are notified to departments of public health), whole genome sequencing, serosurveillance, syndromic surveillance, amongst others. This is an important part of public health epidemiology and contributes toward health protection. Public health work with microbiology laboratories to get data at time and also connect directly with patients and cases.

Why do cdc allow glyphosate after the reports of it being found in every American child's guy?
Why allow an industrial chelate into our food supply?

what is your explanation of the 2022 sporadic monkeypox disease outbreak ? do you think it is related to other than transmission at the animal-human interface?

Informative video as always! I’d love to hear more about what happens when disease surveillance fails and lessons to learn to try and avoid again in the future! I feel like the current monkeypox outbreak could be an example of this.

Of course, there are likely many factors that have led to this, but as I’ve read about this for my project in my current epidemiology course, it seems as early as 2017 there may have been some signs of what is happening. Is this lack of resources? Was it due to location of outbreak? Thank you again for your video!!
