Stripping and Dipping. Here's how I did it 👇
- Try not to die while lifting it into the truck
- Took off the hardware (keep them all together!)
- Cleaned everything with a good degreaser before rinsing off with a wet cloth
- Stripped the top surface, and used a soft ish wire brush to get in those deep oak grains. Scrub with lacquer thinner and 0 steel wool. I sanded off the finish on the top three drawers.
- Scuffed up the rest of the body with some 150 grit
- Taped off the top and primed the body with my fav @kilzbrand primer over everything else. Give that a light sand after it’s dry
- Painted 2 coats in Sico tinted to SW Caviar (it turned out lighter)
- Added poly in my sprayer with whatever was left to make a tinted poly and gave 2 coats.
- Then I paint washed with @fusionmineralpaint “Algonquin”. 2 layers! (My wash was pretty diluted)
- Sealed all my raw wood with some clear poly and waxed the top for that super smooth feel 😍
- Add hardware and you’re done!

This was kind of a complicated flip but it was oh so worth it 😍

I would paint the Lower. handles white, And and the upper handles The same color as the bottom

I work on furniture, too. It was smart of you to seal the paint with poly so if/when it dripped, you just wipe & go. My most recent restoration has paint next to stain. I should have done the paint first & sealed it but no. The stain dripped on the paint & I had to redo. Ugh. It looks lovely!

Lordie, all this painted wood that isn't junky. It all ends up looking more or less the same, I guess that is what trends are about.
