_"There's no conflict between science and faith"_ ... right up until religion makes _any_ claims about reality, then the conflicts are *MASSIVE*

That which can be asserted without evidence, can be Hitch-slapped into oblivion. 😁

One of my favorite comebacks, in response to "science was invented by religious people", was from Sam Harris: "That's because there was no-one else to do the job!"

The better question would be: "Can a scientist believe in god without some cognitive dissonance?" They have to split two parts of their lives so strongly by what method they use to get to truth.

The most compelling point made at the end was that if those early scientists didn't say they believed in god, they could be subject to prison, banishment, or even death. When faced with that kind of coercion, can one even trust those scientists in the past when they say they believed in god?

By qualifications, I am both a scientist and a philosopher, and an atheist...I wonder if I've been counted twice? Great video Stephen, thank you.

Unfortunately, the Established Titles company, looks to have wildly misled people. I'm sure Stephen promoted this in good faith. They have not been clear about this being a 'novelty' item. I understand that they may be investigated by consumer protection groups. Read the small print!

Random person: "Most people aren't billionaires"
Apologist: "That is not true, there exists Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, Ellon Musk, Warren Buffet"

I am tired of apologists, never addressing any of the actual points made. Almost every single thing they debunk, is an argument that no one has ever made. Like the "they believe the Universe popped into existence out of nowhere".

In the words of the great Tim Minchin "Science adjusts its views based on what's observed, Faith is the denial of observation so that belief can be preserved"

Remember, non-believers just think believers are wrong.
Believers think non-believers deserve enteral torment.

1) Anyone citing the fact that some scientists have been theists need to also ask themselves why those scientists have never published any research demonstrating their god.

2) Anyone claiming that there is no conflict between science and religion need to explain how two "ideologies" that present entirely different explanations of the universe and use entirely incompatible methodologies of thought could possibly work together without compromising one or both of them.

At the church I used to go to, it was preached from the pulpit that the more intelligent you were, the less God loved you. As I had been tested to have an IQ of 150, I therefore concluded (at age 18) that God did not love me at all, because I was too intelligent. There was even a Bible study evening where some of the elders of the church laid hands on me (without my permission) and prayed (also without my permission) that God would reduce my intelligence so that I could "just believe". My response was "he could change me into a poodle, but I don't think that's going to happen".

As always Rationality Rules presents criticisms to religion in a super clear and concise way. Problem is most Christian’s I know aren’t even willing to watch videos like these because they don’t want their faith to be challenged (the horror the horror).

Justin is a genius at presenting questions and refusing to entertain answers. Faith at its finest, honesty at its darkest hour. I'd love to see him humorously question himself on the religious belief of some of the most prolific child rapists and murderers the world has ever seen. And not just in the past

If I'd lived before Darwin I'd still be an atheist.
Not understanding how the diversity of life came about still wouldn't lead to "god did it".

While noone sane would ever say that scientists can't believe in god, it IS important to keep in mind that a lot of these people lived during a time where stating that you don't believe in god was a crime punished by brutal and torturous death. I don't doubt that a lot of scientists that made incredible discoveries did believe in god, but it shouldn't be discounted that a lot of them probably also just said so because they didn't want to be brutally murdered for their believes.

Stephen, if it would be helpful to get into the psychology of a Christian, I used to be one. I remember that part of the way I used to justify smart people being less likely to believe in God was that it was an issue of pride. The more a person had going for them (such as having greater than average strength, beauty, or intelligence for example) the more the person would rely on their own abilities and not find a need to seek dependence on God. Obviously now I find that to be rubbish, but hopefully that provides a bit more insight into the psychology that some Christians may have about the issue.

Thank you for lightning up my day that has consisted of cold rain, darkness and war on tv.

i was told growing up that "satan will try to use science, logic, reason, and bible contradictions to deconvert me, but these are all works of the devil and i have to stay strong" 😂

like.... just overt anti intellectualism 😂

i went through a "christian scientist" phase as a midway point to becoming an atheist, and eventually an anti-theist. get that shit outta here.
