The Princess Bride has been an important part of my life since the first time I saw it, and due to the somewhat recent rumors of a remake, I wanted to talk about the value of adaptations and how lucky we are that this film even exists. So, join me as I look at the Princess Bride and how it is was an inconceivable adaptation.

Hey all! It has been a really exciting time for the channel. The channel just hit 200k, which, like, how? So, thank you all so much for getting us to this point. This video is obviously not about video games, so I hope that regardless of if you are familiar with or a fan of the Princess Bride, you find this piece interesting. The next video (which will be out in a few weeks) is going to be the follow up to Gaming for a Non-Gamer though, so, uh, get excited?

Take a nap? (I don't have a link for that)

I think the worst thing about a potential remake of this movie is that they'd cleanse the story of all its campiness, and this is a tale that lives solely on how wonderfully campy it is

"There's a shortage of perfect movies in this world, it would be a pity to ruin this one."

Haha. I read this in Cary Elwes' voice.

At my job, each floor has a break room with a tv in it. Usually the tv is on the same two or three channels (food stuff, renovation stuff, sports stuff). No one usually minds if someone changes the channel. One day, Princess Bride happened to be on

Part way through, a guy comes in, itching to see "the game". He had already grabbed the remote and asked (out of habitual politeness) if he could change the channel. The older woman across from me, without taking her eyes off the tv, said "If you change the channel off of Princess Bride, you're going to make an enemy out of me you don't want." He froze, not sure if she was joking or not. He looked at me (in all my dark attire) and I said "Don't look at me. It's the Princess Bride."

Apparently he had never seen the movie. He spent ten minutes trying to convince everyone in the room to change the channel without luck. Then, one of the floor leads (an army guy, man's-man, sports fan kinda guy) walked by and the dude's eyes lit up. "Hey man! Don't you want to see the score? They're watching some chick movie." Army guy looks at the tv, looks back at dude and said "That's not a chick movie. That's The Princess Bride. You can google the game. You don't change the channel on princess bride."

Movies like the Princess Bride brings people together in a way that's difficult to purposefully create. It has to be something made out of love for story telling rather than love of profit. You can tell that this movie was made from something deeper, which is why it has such a magic to it. Out of tens of people that cycled through that break room during that movie, the only person that wasn't immediately captured by it was the one that didn't know anything about it. By the end of my break, even he was showing curiosity in it. I don't know if he ever watched it or not, but I know he won't forget it. It's the movie where literally everyone refused to change the channel.

If the make a remake, I doubt I'll be interested enough in it to see it. There's not much that can be done to it to improve on it. Anything done to it would be a down grade. It's pretty much perfect, even after thirty years. Maybe in another thirty years, but I imagine it'll still stand up at 60 as it does at 30.

We've watched this movie in class literally every time we had a vacant teacher and the sub didn't feel like teaching us. I freaking love this movie and I even read the screenplay as well, which was a masterpiece in script writing.

Okay, they can make a sequel, but only when Fred Savage is old enough to play the grandpa, and in the movie they just watch the original Princess Bride together.

Inigo: "You seem a good man. I would hate to kill you."

Westley: "You also seem a good man. I would hate to die."

(That's one of my favorite moments of dialogue in any movie lol)

Andre was litterally the perfect fit for fezzik. Andre was the gentle giant with a heart of gold who was a wrestler.
The actor playing vizinni was afraid of heights and andre said "dont be scared, i will protect you." And he had no trouble for the rest of the production.

I find it absolutely fascinating that, while people are merely annoyed by remakes of stuff like The Lion King or Beauty and the Beast, the suggestion of remaking The Princess Bride brings out a reactive fervor as if someone had suggested committing blasphemy or sacrilege. I don't even know why that is but I've just observed it, in myself and others. Great video by the way.

This is my dad's favorite movie. He saw it when it first came out in theaters and has loved it ever since. It was a staple around my house, much to my mom's chagrin. Best part about my dad's love for this movie is video tapes of my parent's honeymoon in the Fairmont Banff Springs hotel in Canada. My dad would of course hide around a corner only to jump out and declare, "My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." Drove my mom insane but yeah my family has basically treasured both this book and movie. It is still one of my most favorite book to screen adaptations

IMO remakes are usually only good when the source material had an interesting concept that was poorly implemented, otherwise I don't really see the point (aside from being an easy cash grab, of course).

There are few movies that can be considered a perfect movie. This is one of them.

“As you wish.”
What I said to my children their whole lives until they finally watched a second hand store copy I found.
“THATS WHY YOU SAY IT?!?”
One of many magical movie experiences I wanted my children to experience. Along with crying for E.T. and Elliot; and learning about greed and family from The Dark Crystal, to never give up and strive for your dreams with The Never Ending Story and so many more.
Thank you for sharing! It’s time for me to start collecting them again for my grandchildren. Who aren’t even born yet! Hopefully the vcr will still work! 😜😎

I now understand why this was basically my junior high, social studies teacher's favorite film/story. Basically in the 3 years he taught me social studies I think we watched it at least 5 times.

I never knew the existence of this film, until tonight. And I will watch it. Certainly.

i saw a meme that was basically a muppets version of the princess bride and that's honestly the only way I'd accept a tpb remake

If there is such a thing as a perfect movie, this is it. Even my stepdaughters who don't like anything more than a year old fell in love with this movie when I watched it with them.
