One important thing to note is that sure a sealant on ciment grout give it the same stain resistance as epoxy, BUT sealant generally come off after a few month/years and isn't as resistant to chemical and mechanical agression during washing

As someone who uses oils in the bathroom - maybe epoxy on the floor & cement on the walls. Sealer will DIFFINETLY be used on the cement. But maybe cement will be fine throughout, just combined with sealer 🤔 aahhhh, still can't decide 😫

Could you recommend a black grout and sealant for a wet room? I’ve got 5-6m2 of 600x600 Matt black r11 porcelain floor tiles and near 10m2 of Matt black 300x50 porcelain in a soldier pattern and just the thought of grouting is giving me anxiety!! I have seen that distilled water will stop any white mineral haze but I’m keen to keep it looking good in the long term. I’m just a delusional girl absolutely winging it building my dream bathroom from scratch so all knowledge welcome!

1. Cement grout requires curing. Depending on brand - couple of days to couple of weeks (see the instructions for a product). During that period it is recommended to avoid staining it. After that period, grout is really resistant to staining.
2. If you plan to stain cement grout, impregnate it with a sealer.
3. Epoxy grouts are susceptible to staining, especially brighter colours. That's why in industrial applications gray/dark gray one is most commonly used.
4. The only real advantage of epoxy grout is its resistance to chemicals. It may be cleaned and most importantly disinfected with aggressive chemicals. Thus it' being used in restaurants, abattoirs, factories etc. BTW, modern cement grouts are fairly chemicals-resistant too.
5. Epoxy grouts CANNOT be used is wet areas and outdoor, because they're completely impermeable, so any moisture trapped under the tiles as a result of condensation cannot escape. Even water proofing membranes won't help.
6. Epoxy is awful to work with. On smooth tiles it's OKish, but any textured ones will change grouting into arduous nightmare.
DYI-ers stay away from epoxy

Epoxy is awful to work. It's not too bad on smooth flat tiles.... but bevelled or not a give me cement. How well does the grout Sealer hold up?

the epoxy grout looks like it was applied with a caulking gun... which isnt a good thing... lol

i like epoxy grout but id recommend Laticrete Spectralock Pro instead which applies like standard grout (with a grout float).

Instead of having a small row on the top you could split it with the bottom raw. Would look better and niche would be on the center. Just saying..

Epoxy all day long. Cement degrades over time and the constant resealing is a pain as well.
