Goodbye PBS Idea Channel

This is very sweet, Olly. Thank you so much for all the kind words and also for all your help on the show in the last year. Besides being a great friend and a smart dude, knowing you were out there in Internet Land watching the show also encouraged us towards a much needed (and often uncomfortably donned) sense of responsibility. I remember we once confused cause and effect of some concept–I think one related to fiction?–and you wrote a WHOA WHOA, WAIT A MINUTE comment which was both kind and firm. That really stuck with me. You always provided, whether you knew it or not, encouragement to be precise in a way that I often, reflexively, am not. Thank you. <3

yeah I really loved Idea Channel and it seemed to be going somewhere great. But also a main reason I'm sad Idea Channel's ending is because of how few channels there are that fill the same niche, among educational youtube videos it's mostly STEM, there's been a bit more recently and I feel like Idea Channel (and you of course) inspiring people was a big part of that. Fortunately old episodes are still out there.


Also, I can sympathise with the big head struggle making hats difficult.

That response video to Idea Channel is how I found your channel. Idea Channel has always been top notch and I am glad it existed and I had the fortune to have seen all of it. I am going to binge watch the whole channel after the last video is released. So many great memories. It will be missed.

I was just devastated by losing Idea Channel. I wanted to use it as a research subject (along with a few others) one day when I finally get to do my MA. I probably still will, but there's absolutely nothing like it. I will miss it dearly.

I found your channel through that shout-out when I was going through the Idea Channel backlog a few years ago, and the two of you have rapidly become two of my favorite "people talking at me" channels. Sad to see it go, but really excited to see whatever Mike is doing next!!

I am somewhat new to watching videos on You Tube so thanks for telling me about their channel. It's too bad they aren't going to be putting out new videos but I will certainly subscribe and watch the videos they have already done. Thank you!

Good guy Ollie. I came here because of them, and I agree with everything you've said (apart from the t-shirt thing, never got any Idea Channel merch). Very envious of having Mike but you a pint. He seems like the kind of guy you could just spend HOURS talking to in a pub about literally anything.
But yes. When I saw they'd uploading a video announcing the end of Idea Channel I literally physically shouted "Nooo!" It's been a great channel, and will be missed. :(

Someone needs to take their place; since channels like This Exists, Nerdsync, Jay Foreman are all dying if not dead it would be great if you could all get together since you all know eachother (Except Jay Foreman) you could make your own thing out of the PBS Idea rubble wouldn't that be nice;, a Musician, Philosopher, Avid Comic Reader and maybe a Histolographer and whatever Mike is, I know I am not the only one who wants this and it is needed so I plead for it and hope you are listening.
