Beni's Journey

Beni is a beloved part of our Nyaru Menteng Rescue Centre, and a fan favourite of our award winning documentary series 'Orangutan Jungle School'. Just like all of our rescued orangutans, Beni's start in life was a tough one as he orphaned by poachers and found starving. Since then his life has changed for the better and we hope to see Beni released to the wild one day. Learn more about his story in this video and watch our most recent update on Beni afterward.

Our vision is to restore the natural balance for Bornean orangutans. Their survival is at risk solely due to human impact, pushing them to the brink of extinction.

Our mission is two-fold. First, we save orangutans in immediate danger through rescue, rehabilitation, and re-introduction to protected rainforests. Second, and equally important, we protect and restore their wild habitat by working alongside the native communities bordering them.

Man, when he smacked the tree and fell straight down, it was like something from a Three Stooges physical comedy! Thankfully, he wasn't hurt or else it wouldn't have been funny. Plus, it was so unexpected, and then when they added the text stating that his added mass was impeding his progress and the very next thing you see is his big ass hitting the tree, well, it's hard not to laugh. :D

I absolutely adore Beni! He’s come such a long way. I still can’t believe he’s graduated forest school and is waiting to go to a pre release island 😩 I’m sad that’s he’s growing up so fast but so excited and happy for him all at the same time 😔🤗 Thank you guys for doing what you do to make sure they all get a second chance at life!!

I love Beni and still watch for him, in the videos. Maybe the team will be out and catch him on video! I work with a lot of disabled people who are not mobile. So, I'm setting them all up with BOS on their laptops, tablets, etc.. I've already set up a couple and the patients LOVE them! So do their families. 😍😊

A long time ago I used to be interested in the orangutan because of the babies. But the more I follow these these little babies lives The more I've learned to appreciate how big they get how beautiful they are when they're full grown adults.
