Mathematic theorems are written so that anybody can understand and follow them, assuming you have the knowledge. Essentially theyre instructions. If instructions were missing steps 4-8, youd say they were bad instructions.

The difficult bit is finding an answer, not following along with a correct answer

He didn’t say “no one knows the answer” he said “I’ve never seen anyone get it right.” Which could imply that the answer is known, but he’s never seen anyone who didn’t know the answer, prior to answering the question, get the question correct. It could also just be significantly easier to check if the answer to an equation works by just plugging in the answer given to you

I can't see the problem well enough to read it fully but im pretty sure based of his final underlining of pi*ab that the problem is asking to derive the area of an elipse formula, in which case this problem is pretty trivial. If you passed calc 2 your gonna be fine. More interesting would be the perimeter of an ellipse, which while well studied doesn’t have a nice known closed form formula. There are of course integral and series representations.
