the problem with the council for the arts is that it has absolutely no interest in true artists with a bold personal vision. it looks to support the academic version of artwork, which is to use people who conform to the overly specific boardroom specifications you guys set out. ceo driven greatest common denominator works that are all about patting yourselves on the back and saying empty platitudes with conformist safe un affecting corporate messages. this kind of council stagnates true progress in art, because it punishes or completely ignores bold personal work and limits it to the shadows, while giving thousands of dollars to work that is derivative film school tv commercial tripe. lets stay safe with work that wont affect anyone, wont make anyone uncomfortable or think about something from a perspective theyve never even considered, no, lets stay safe and make a profit while feeling like were making a difference. you people dont support art, you support the 2 cons; consumerism and conformity
