In Unreal Engine 4.25 we’ve added support for importing, visualizing, editing, and interacting with point clouds acquired from laser scanning devices. This enables design vis specialists, manufacturers, set designers, and builders to aggregate and use huge datasets captured from the real world. Point clouds can be used to visualize locations and to give accurate context to newly designed elements.

What is the best way to take point cloud data and add interactive elements or change the initial models? It would be great for our architecture firm to be able to take a scan and then propose variations on top of that scan to clients!

A kind of an important piece seems missing - automated mesh creation that doesn't make everything look horrific. Until that happens, I'm not sure one can speak of "easy working with point clouds"?

Just imagine if one day in the near future you will be able to scan an object or a small building with your iPhone 12 (built in lidar) and import the project in UE4... That's sci-fi stuff!!

Some years ago I tried to make a Photogramety based mesh to make a virtual tour for a client (that was a nightmare). it's awesome to finally know that's possible in a better way, but my question is: This only works with a point cloud or it works with a mesh built from the poincloud too?
