It's an event that draws many thousands of music lovers to one of the most beautiful cities in the world every summer: the opera season at the ancient Arena di Verona. The 2,000-year-old roman amphiteatre with its gigantic stage dimensions is one of the largest and best preserved Roman construction of its kind, and with over 22,000 seats it is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular open-air venues of the world! The revered master of opera Franco Zeffirelli, who died shortly before the premiere of Il Trovatore, created a legendary scenery with groups of giant sized armoured knights, a fortress turning into a luminous cathedral, an enormous choir, horses, breathtaking fights: “his perhaps best arena production” (Opernglas). It brings Anna Netrebko to the Arena of Verona where she is giving her much-anticipated debut in one of Giuseppe Verdi’s most popular operas. Next to Anna Netrebko as Leonora perform Verdi accomplished baritone Luca Salsi as Count di Luna and Yusif Eyvazov returns to the Arena as his powerful-voiced opponent Manrico. Cosa pensano i dirigenti dell'ex prestigioso anfiteatro scaligero?Urge un controllo serio dall'otorino e un severo richiamo del pubblico a suon di fischi o, meglio, il vuoto di presenze:per sentire capre che belano il canto di Manrico basta un ovile.

I think, the best performance (recorded) of Netrebko on this opera was in 2015 beside Yonghoon Lee and Hvorostovsky.

I`ve seen about a dozen of operas in the Arena, this one beeing one of them. The voice of Netrebko is unmatched, nothing comes close, she is on another level, in another sphere. A recording of this coming out of your HiFi / PC speakers will not even come close to the real experience. It's like reading about chocolate instead of actually tasting it.

Not to sound mean, but you know who I would have wanted to have casted as Leonora and Manrico? Hulkar Sabirova as Leonora and Giancarlo Monsalve as Manrico! That's right, folks. I would have loved to hear these two as the pivotal roles of the lovers because they have far better techniques than what Netrebko and...ughhh...Eyvazov could ever dish out.

Ce spectable est une honte!! Netrebko et son mari sont deplorables! Comment cette bonne soprano lyrique a ruiné sa voix avec des rôles trop lourds! Salsi pas très bon et les jeux de scène ridicules

Hát ez semmi. Színészi játék nulla. Hvorosztovszkij nélkül, mit sem ér. Még a kórus a legjobb.

Well thats' nothing! Acting game zero. Without Hvorostovsky, the whole thing is worth nothing. Even the chorus is the best.

Anna still has a beautiful voice and commanding presence, but Yusif is a disaster, sorry to say that. No voice at all.
