I Tried an EXTREME DECLUTTER using the MARIE KONDO METHOD... worth it???

We tackled our biggest declutter EVER in the basement using the Marie Kondo Method... and this is what happened.

My decluttering mantra is this quote from William Morris:
“Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.”

You should put tallies on the ziploc toy bags every time they pull that bag out. That way you can donate the bags that have minimal to no tallies because you know for sure they don’t play with those!

You seem so stressed about the toys, but... They really don't need that many. My brother and I had a couple stuffed toys and some Legos growing up, and we were happy.
Just gradually get rid of things/box things up, and if they don't notice it gone in a couple weeks, get rid of it.

Assign each kid one box of toys to keep and have them fill it. What ever doesn't fit gets purged or donated. That way they have their favorites of what they play.

I loved my Konmari journey. My family was more or less unimpressed during the process, but once everything was done and I'd run some white sage through the house, they took a look and seemed impressed. I'm just excited to have my home in order; now I have no more excuses to get other aspects of my life in order 👍

You should REMOVE the BATTERIES from the toys you are storing because they might leak and end up damaging the toys. It sadily happened to a couple of my older daughter''s baby toys I was saving for my second baby.

About declutter and Marie Kondo, it is definitely a good guidance for beginners or people who are lost. But I think once we start doing it, we need to adjust it according to our rhythm and our house. Everyone and every house is different and so you cannot have a very exact method for all.

Decluttering IS so satisfying! Has anybody ever completed a decluttering project of any significance and NOT felt like a freakin' superhero? Nope? Didn't think so! 😄

Y'all did good!!! As for the toys, maybe get the kids to pick their 5 favorites and donate the rest? If they already enjoy what's upstairs, then maybe they've forgotten what's in the basement.

On what planet do children need this many toys 😭 like I had A TOY BOX one, and all my toys fit in it, the rest of the time I played with dirt and twigs, literally. To each their own, but just looking at that gives me anxiety.
