I do that's why I said youtube, I think the reason I like these critics so much is because since they don't take bad movies so seriously when they really hate something you can trust them that it really sucks unlike mainstream (for lack of a better term) critics who hate everything.

In the end, reviews are just a reflection of one's opinion. Just because they come from a flashy site doesn't mean they aren't different from you or I. Anybody could have told you that.

Can you be a film critic without a degree

The difference between a critic and any other personbis that they have a vocabulary and a much more in depth understanding of cinema to write an insiightful review. If you want to watch a movie for fun, why bother reading a review? Just go watch it! As for whether the movi deserves an oscar, etc. well, thats why we have these people.

Exactly, being a film critic is just giving your opinion, so why should we have to listen to theirs? Thats why imdb is a lot better-it gives a general consensus on how good a film is

I agree, the IGN guy is just saying "its all about developing your voice and improving your style", he did not say anything about analysis which is the important part

Also the fact that as soon they start to like a piece of creative work, they start question it too much, trying to find flaws. Plus in most cases they do not review creative work from what its actually trying to achieve. E.g. if its a comedy flick, review it mainly on the bases on how many times it makes you laugh, even then its problem because these 'hipsters' try to put a serious faces. Over 90% of all creative work is NOT original, less than 10% is unique, fact from an innovation journal.
