Why go directly to Mars and not have a Moon base firs to test things out first. In a worst case scenario it would take week to get emergency supplies. And it's easier to launch rockets from the Moon then from Earth for the eventual Mars mission.

For sure that all the crítics on Mars are Star Wars fans, and run each year to the movie paying extra money for their tickets. That’s the way it is.

So basically, even though there are women who can score as academically high as men, men are still stronger physically than women. But for such an important mission like a landing on another planet, they choose 3 of the 6 crew to be women. That means when they had to carry the injured captain to the base, they might have made it if they were all men. But because what was probably a diversity hire decision, 3 were women so they couldn't run as fast, and someone had to die for it.
