One of the producers of this game, David Poe, died during development of this game. He was in mexico swinging on a soccer post and it fell on him and crushed him.

I remember the teaser for this on the Playstation Underground disc. I thought, "There's no way they got Phil Hartman to do this, " but there he was.

This game was a pain in the ass! I'd love to give it another shot some 20 years later after first playing it. R.I.P. Phil Hartman!

the difficulty was insane, enemies shoot at you the moment they spawn, without miss, while your aim is miserable

most underrated soundtrack in a video game.

I'd love a remaster of Blasto similar to Crash & Spyro. They have to keep Phil's voice though, without him there is no Blasto

Rest in peace Phil Hartman who did the voice of Captain Blasto

Lol I don't think I ever made it past level 2. This game was so hard as a kid but even all these years later I remember it. 100% cried dying over and over

Was playing it just now. Man, this game was ahead of its time on the gameplay front. Still early to say, but I think it isn't as hard as people seemed to think, they just weren't yet accostumed to 3D platforming games. The platforming is amazingly well done. Usually platforming is really difficult in old 3D games, but I was completely amazed at how Blasto managed to make it so tight and responsive in 1998. The only thing it lacks to be comparable to modern titles is the camera+movement controls under the right analog. As is, the right analog just controls the aiming, but still, the way the tank controls were implemented is amazing and give you a pretty fine control over the character. It is a little bit clunky, but not enough to be a problem, it just feels like there are some locks here and there in control that makes it less agile, but do not impact controllability not even in the least. This game puts the likes of other tank control games on the PS1 to shame, it even had the fast lookback mechanic that Resident Evil would implement in later installments. Fantastic game that was unjustly reviewed back in the day.
