Thank you for this timely video! I dealt with way too many swarms this last week, and I decided it was time to 'girl up' and learn how to mark queens. I just did it how Salena showed us....thank you so much, you rock gurl!!

Hello Friends! I purchased 4 gallons of your Tupelo a few years back and after sharing far and wide, I’m down to 1/8th of my last gallon. I researched natural medicinal food sources for years after losing my Dad to colon cancer. He was a concrete finisher by trade but an orchard keeper on our land, where I grew up, in his down time. You’ve been keeping bees for as long as I have been alive, Bob(1981)! I bet you’d have been pals with my dad if you had ever come across him. We’re in the PNW and I’ve only visited Georgia once but should I ever come again, I’d love to see your operation! When I got interested in honey as a superfood I looked into medical journals and decided on Tupelo & was then blessed to find your company! I hope you continue to thrive and if you consider a social media presence beyond YouTube, I’d love to help that along!! God Bless🙏🏼

We use the little round screen with nails, well a similar one, it’s very useful to mark and keep queens aside together with the frame if you find them during a “routine inspection”. Otherwise if it’s during queen caging we use our fingers, thanks for the video Bob! Good Sunday

Always something to learn so now to learn to mark our Queens. We are also going to go to replacing our Queens every other year in hopes that it may also help in her laying and honey production.

Thanks for this video. Wow, Syleena makes marking queens look so much easier than it is. Whenever I try working the bees without gloves, sooner of later, I get stung in the fingers. I usually get stung when I am holding the frame with the queen causing me to drop one end of the frame. Then, once stung by a bee, the other bees target the stung hand. Syleena also makes soap making look too easy!

just to add my two cents, ive liked the one handed catcher before i learned to do it with my fingers. the groves let the workers you catch with the queen wiggle out eventually which is nice, the plunger type doesn't. ive mostly only used the stainless steel catchers just because i thought i would break the plastic ones in my pockets. you do have to check the steel ones once in a while to make sure the bars havent been dented, a queen can get out if they are pushed in. i've had that happen when swarm catching. if i can find her, i'll put her in a cage and then rubber band it to a foundation frame, usually makes the swarm stay in the box i give them. but i have come back later and found the box empty and no queen in the cage to later figure out the bars were dented.

The one time this year I didn't 'dob' the pen on something else first after taking it out of my pocket, it of course 'puked' all over the queen I was marking. Four days later they had queen cells... (sigh)
Syleena sure makes it look easy, ! You should have had someone like me who can palm a basketball do the video-- even now in mid summer it usually takes two/three tries to get the queen. Bob, I suppose that's why we didn't see your sausage, man fingers in action. LOL! Great video as always!

Would love a indept video more about the double screen. Maybe with more about how to get them to make queens in the top box and abit more about what to do after the split of the top nuc. 🙏🙏

I only have a hobby apiary with about 7 hives so I am quite unprofessional in my approach. I use a clear plastic clip to catch the queen - always carry the clip in my breast pocket of my suit so it is nice and handy - and the basic plunger devise for the actual marking. This has worked well for me for over 12 years of beekeeping, but is of course much too time consuming if you are a commercial beekeeper.

Thank you for keeping Clayton and surrounding areas pollinated. People really don't realize the importance of honeybees.
