Dang anyone who has earned 135lbs knows how much of a leap 225 is. The pressure it places on the thoracic cervical junction and lower back is tremendous.

Strict press is the real upper body strengh measurement everybody can bench 100kg in a year but 100kg press takes 5+

because this is my favourite lift I thought I'd share my insights into it. This person is much stronger than me, however I know a few tricks. I have found I am much stronger starting from the lower clean position, this enables you to draw air and trap as much as possible into your lungs. When this weight sights on your shoulders ready to be fired, it is almost impossible to fully draw breath. Another trick for strength is as much air as possible in your lungs, it helps prevent the collapsing of your spinal curve which is where strength is derived from. Lastly the coolest trick I learned was from observing the Japanese, they would bow very fast, putting their head between their feet almost. This is actually a spinal decompression technique, if you swing your head down towards your feet, you can perform a traction release along your entire spin. When the spin is decompressed, it is the most strong. I always do these 3 things before each press.

Impressive, there is some scope for technical refinement. If you can better synchronise the break at the hips/hip extension (see how far you can launch an empty bar from the rack position by squeezing your glutes and calves hard enough your heels rise) this will make starting the press easier. Head needs to be through the window as soon as you can because the longer the bar is forward of the chest the longer the weaker a position you're in. BTN presses and BTN press into squat balance help with getting accustomed to this movement and positioning where more of the load is distributed across the shoulder girdle/upper back.

I say all this, I'm just a guy on the net thats only done 102.5kg at 119kg BW .

How come you still keep getting stronger (and breaking both push and pull PRs - without a massive bulk), while having worked out for so many years already and after becoming a family man and everything else?
