One of my hobbies is mountain biking. One of the things that the bike industry has figured out is that middle-age people are who fund the sport. Not necessarily a good thing for the consumer, for as you know, a good mountain bike, these days, costs $4K and up. But it’s good business. It makes sense that CrossFit should invest more in targeting masters age folks that fund the high box fees, buy home rigs and more. You are an awesome ambassador for this demographic.

Love doing the Bolder Beginnings program right now and excited to sign up for your programming after the 30 day challenge! Thanks for your perspective and for sharing your story! I’m not 20 years old anymore and after 5 kids I have to work out differently. So you and all the Masters Athletes give us “old folks”😆 some hope that we can keep up with our fitness! If I can convince my husband maybe we can make our vacation plans around the new competition! It would be fun to see y’all live! Thanks for keeping us updated!

Good video Jason. I’m more likely to watch the Masters/Teens and Adaptive streams than I am the Games at this point to be honest. I do feel like it’s a shame that the community is being “split up” and the wholistic Games experience will not be a thing anymore. We lived in Fort Worth for 7 years and I was looking forward to returning this year to watch the Games and now to be honest I’m not so sure I’ll spend the money. The elites are great. But the community is in the other divisions. I know Legends will put on a great show. I’m just mourning the end of the wholistic community celebration. And yes. Y’all are Games Athletes. And that’s badass.

I’m hoping that they can get their production back up to, and above the level it was at in 2017-18. With a smaller group there will be more opportunities to get to know individual athletes. Showing the qualifiers, quarters and semis would all help there be more exposure too.

What draws fans in is the personalities and back stories. This needs to be expanded in the coverage. And hopefully with these changes it will be.

Glad to hear your thoughts on this. You are right that branding - the title of Crossfit Game Athlete - is so important. More important, your son wanting to see the is awesome and so important. They are the next generation and every level is important. It will be interesting to see where this goes.

Hey Jason, thank you for sharing. I’m in my 50s and played collegiate sports in the past and I really enjoy CrossFit for so many reasons I would really love to see masters athletes to have its own event so we can bring in more fans and be inspired by all the different athletes you are a true athlete a true champion. Don’t let anyone else tell you different and you’re inspiring. A lot of people by doing what you do I look forward to hoping That Crossfit does a great job with all the masters, legends, teen and adaptive athletes, watching those on separate weekends I think would be awesome or to actually attend an event. Thank you for all you do to grow the sport and for those of us that are older and more seasoned athletes that enjoy the sport and working out I believe there’s room for all.

Awesome to get your take on it. I always wanted the age groups to get their own spotlight without losing the prestige of being connected to the CF Games.

Thank you for keeping us up to date! Also, any idea when dates for the 2024 CF Open will be announced? I would like to plan my 2024 calendar now so I don’t have travel plans intersect with it. Seems like we should know by now!

I sincerely hope there'll be a live-broadcast. You'll defenitly "have my eyeballs". To you personally : during my recovery from my motorcycle accident, I had some very hard days. (still in my recovery now). You still, as a master, inspire me to continue... Thank you for that. Greetings from Germany. Yves... 👋😊.

(Very sarcastically) “know your place, Jason”! You are a Masters athlete! You know, the ones who have responsibilities other than themselves…families, careers, businesses and the like yet you still find time to crush it in the fitness realm.

The truth is you are more of a games athlete than the 20 something year old who has no one to focus on but themselves.

I am not a games athlete, but am about your age and have been doing CrossFit for 11 years, have a family and a successful career. I am proud of my fitness and my accomplishments and enjoy living vicariously through people like you and Neal Maddox (when he was competing).

Jason you have more of a voice than most of us, and I think you hit the mark with the title of the event being crucial... It has to be The CrossFit Games Masters.

i think it is great for masters as many over 35 over 50 years are doing Crossfit .it is very challenging
hopefully with this new version we might have more crossfit masters competition all over the world
i am in China and it is tough as few masters but people want to create Masters league all over Asia and Australia but so easy
but on others side it might be difficult to find sponsors for only Masters competition
if we do all sponsors will come easier

You have this bang on Jason. More big events is great for the sport but they HAVE to get the branding of those events right and time them strategically. Much love from another 40+ year old 😁

Good Lord Jason you are such a great spokesperson and ambassador for the sport and for us master’s athletes.

I Think that you are right Jason - it’s going to be different, hopefully better for all divisions, I Think this will be Crossfits first try to set the events in Europe or Asia - the Masters will be the most likely class, for this because of the economy in the athletes in the class. Of cause not in year one… but look at Triatlon, they have even divided it into male and female…?

I'm still skeptical that CrossFit will try to make this a better, more entertaining, higher-quality event for the masters or other "non-elite" divisions. I believe they are solely doing this from an expansion or ROI perspective. They should look at M&A and acquire the Legends series if they are that dedicated to the other divisions. Their brand and "The Games" will be associated with more events without sharing the same operational costs. More significant events at multiple locations throughout the year will command a larger presence and increase their overall reach and profitability. I don't see them being able to pull it off, however. They don't have a very good track record. Here's your chance to prove us wrong, CrossFit!

On a more positive note, I agree that we should band together and make this the best masters division year yet. I may forego Wodapalooza to come support in 2024!

Unfortunately, the Masters, Teen and Adaptive are now not "CrossFit Games Athletes" because we will not be at the "CrossFit Games". They will be whatever CrossFit want to call them. This is extremely disappointing. As you have communicated the fact that you were there with all the CrossFit Athletes was a huge motivator for you (in fact this was the most excited you were in the entire post and I am sure this was a key driver to getting you to the Games). Now we will be even more sidelined and not have the chance to do things like the Country March Out at the start of the games etc. They are great at taking our money but not so good at listening to us. In fact they never listen to us. It would have been great for someone from CrossFit to have talked to you before the change was made, or at least someone who could represent us. Anyway, as with everything else in the CrossFit games it will all change next year.

Having divisions showcased alongside the best of the best only helps with showing how accessible the sport is. If they make it appear less accessible then they shouldn’t be surprised when interest drops. I know I got back into CrossFit because of a 47 yo Jason Grubb’s story and his accessibility to fans and people aspiring to be better. Why would someone say that it isn’t AT LEAST a good marketing decision to make sure the Masters and other divisions aren’t sidelined??

I'm just excited that I get to watch prople in my age category this year from a camera thats not 3 states over.😂

I see why CF focused on the elites, its where the money is for sponsorship, viewership, etc. But we need to watch elite people like ourselves, age and ability wise, to get morivated to become better.

However, it will take away from live viewerships I think, and possibly even the livestream. It was one of the bonuses from this year's Arnold's SM/SW classic. The seats were full because the men and women were competing on the same stage. There were fans that never seen both compete and they surely gained fans for both athletes. I know my wife loved watching the women compete, she didnt even know there were strongwomen athletes until this year.
