CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Dr. Stone (Michael J. Fox) is urged by the locals to stay in town instead of leaving for Los Angeles.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
A big city doctor is stranded in a small rural town, where he finds love, professional challenges, and a pet pig, in this comedy. Fresh out of residence at a Washington D.C. hospital, hot-shot plastic surgeon Ben Stone (Michael J. Fox) hops in his Porsche and is headed for California, where a lucrative practice in Beverly Hills awaits. However, Ben accidentally plows into a fence in Grady, South Carolina; the wreck puts Ben's car out of commission, and the town's mayor, Nick Nicholson (David Ogden Stiers), sees to it that Ben is sentenced to perform community service while he's waiting to get his car back on the road. For a week, Ben will serve as the community's general practitioner, filling in for the aging Dr. Hogue (Barnard Hughes). Many of the locals go out of their way to make Ben feel welcome, since they need a new full-time doctor and hope he'd be interested in staying on a permanent basis. Ben isn't especially interested until he meets Lou (Julie Warner), a beautiful, intelligent, and feisty local woman he first meets as she's enjoying a morning skinny-dip. Ben now finds himself wondering what the odds are of winning her away from her less-than-brilliant boyfriend Hank (Woody Harrelson). Bridget Fonda has a memorable supporting role as Nancy Lee, who doesn't make much of a secret of her attraction to Ben.

The mayor is the clock from Beauty and the Beast, the villain from Pocahontas and Jumba from Lilo and Stitch!

Sounds like they're trying to make up his mind for him! Well...most of 'em, anyway. They appear to like him. He's taken aback, of course... you would be, too, if a group of people sprang a surprise like that on you! This was one of the better movies of 1991, and I love it!

Something about this scene just shows that sometimes money should not be the motivation to help others in need of your care.

I didn’t think much about this scene then as I was young and working and insured.

But when you move to a state like West Virginia (had to flee my home state in retirement due to rising housing costs) you find out quick yer on yer own, health-wise in many areas.

Need a doc or a dentist? You’d better near one of the few cities or decent-sized towns. Anyone capable of being a physician of any kind doesn’t have a lot of reason to stay, income-wise. The state simply can’t afford the professionals they desperately need; living here ain’t exactly dirt cheap just because it’s a lower-standard-of-living one.

$35, 000 per year works out to $2, 916 per month and take that number divide that by 4 and that's $729.00 per week... which would be like working for minimum wage for a physician

Don’t take my dad made 200, 000 being a doctor.

I'm just gonna say it. I like Michael J. Fox, but I don't like him here. He seems conceited and arrogant and above these people and he's not cute here. At all. His haircut is just weird and not attractive at all. Again I like him as an actor, just not here. If I was him I would've past on this film, but that's just my opinion.
