Heaven and Hell is the ninth studio album by British heavy metal band Black Sabbath, released on 25 April 1980. It is the first Black Sabbath album to feature vocalist Ronnie James Dio, who replaced original vocalist Ozzy Osbourne in 1979
Vocalist Ronnie James Dio was first introduced to Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi in 1979 by Sharon Arden, ironically the future wife of the band's recently-fired vocalist Ozzy Osbourne. Initially Dio and Iommi discussed forming a new band, not a continuation of Black Sabbath.The pair met again by chance at The Rainbow on Sunset Strip in Los Angeles later that year.Both men were in similar situations, as Dio was seeking a new project and Iommi required a vocalist. Said Dio of the encounter, "It must have been fate, because we connected so instantly."The pair kept in touch via telephone, until Dio arrived at Iommi's Los Angeles house for a relaxed, getting-to-know-you jam session. On that first day the duo wrote the song "Children of the Sea".

Ronnie has been at the vanguard of music since the late 50s, then he was a teen in Ronnie and the red caps. on to elf into Rainbow. Of course the time in Sabbath and onto his solo Career. People don't realize how versatile of a musician he was. If he did nothing but write lyrics for over 50 years he would still have been brilliant.

I was lucky enough to have front row seats to the show in Kansas City on this tour. Let me tell you, no one I ever saw could project them self the way Dio did. Ozzy was great with Sabbath (saw them several times) but Dio was more than just a great voice. He some how channeled energy of the music to the audience. Yes, it was the best show I ever saw, including Rush, Pink Floyd and Van Halen, and Blizzard of Oz.

It’s funny knowing that Sabbath were trying out new things with Heavy Metal in 1980 even before any other HM bands made their debut..
And to to think they played even heavier than this some 10 years before is mind blowing..

THE BEST OF THE BEST! PROOF? Their catalog moved hundreds of thousands when they came out the last time, and THE END tour grossed Millions! for a 40 something year old band! Sabbath is the pinnacle! IMO. Cheers! to all fans of the Sabb...
