Tesla FSD 13.2 vs Waymo!

Get up to $2,000 off a new Tesla:

I had Tesla FSD 13.2 and Waymo do the same drive, starting from the same point and ending at the same point. Both completed the drive with zero interventions, but Tesla had fewer awkward moments and got to the destination in 15 minutes and 40 seconds while the Waymo took 43 minutes — nearly 3 times as long.

In case you're wondering, the rides start at 1430 S Fairfax Ave, Los Angeles (in Mid City), and end at 1337 Ocean Ave, Santa Monica. The Tesla takes I-10, but since Waymo isn't allowed to drive on freeways, it has to take city streets (which for a human driver still takes at least twice as long). And Waymo has been testing on freeways since at least January 2024, but getting regulatory approval is so much harder.
If I were doing this, then I would have taken Waymo to La Cienega/Jefferson station, from which the E Line goes directly to Downtown Santa Monica.

I think their catch line should be "You'll pay Waymo and it'll take you Waymo time"

I took 5 trips in a Waymo in Los Angeles and was pretty impressed. It did get stuck for awhile once when cars were turning and blocking the road. Other drivers were going around. Eventually the Waymo figured it out on it’s own.

I don't know if there has been an update in the last couple of months or not, but one thing that didn't show up very well in the video if you aren't watching for it - the Waymo we took in October was VERY "herky-jerky". I don't get car sick, but it even had me a little queasy by the end of the trip, and my wife was absolutely green doing deep breathing not to spew all over the sidewalk. We just thought it would be cool to try it out since we had heard about them and were in Phoenix. My neighbor has a Model S with FSD. I haven't tried out the new v13 that came out, but I've really enjoyed trying all the bells and whistles out as they happen when he offers. It was 12.something a few weeks ago last time we used it. A little slow on takeoff at times, stops could be a little abrupt, but the overall drive was SOOOOooo much better. If 13 is as much better over 12 as they say, I can't imagine how good it is. Tesla is just nuts. Someday, when I don't have to drive 600+ miles a day for a job and meet a time crunch - I want one! :)

Citizen journalism at work. You’d never get this from a @FoxBusiness or @CNBC journalist.

Tesla FSD 13.2 is awesome. Any bet autonomy is solved before wonky wipers are?

Got to ride Waymo in SF. It’s super good! Very reliable as far as hailing in the app and incredibly comfortable and safe. Truly incredible and deserves more respect and attention honestly.

Waymo is a public taxi service. Must comply with state safety rules and regulations. It is normal to be more cautious and reach the target later for the sake of security. Regarding Tesla FSD, the vehicle owner is responsible for everything that happens to you while driving. There is no point in comparing the two systems

Holy moly. Incredible comparison video.

Would it be better to show the kilometers or miles instead of the time? Because I can't figure out how far apart they are.

This would be an amazing experiment if the cars had the same start and end location and start time.

omg the waymo had the indicator on for like the first 2 mins of the video 😂

Could you make a video where cars leave the same parking lot at the same time and head for the same place? Maybe your Tesla would only start moving when the other car is already moving.

Well, that's that. Race is over, pun intended.😁

It looks like the Tesla picked the shorter route.

3:37 - The Waymo massively overreacting by stopping in the lane there lol.

if it is going to phantom wipe, they should force it to spray some water at the same time. Do something useful and clean the windscreen a bit. it will even make it look more intelligent
