Cane Corso vs Rottweiler - Which is Best? Dog Trainer's Perspective on the Breed - Part 1

Part 1 of 2

Please note: this is more for entertainment purposes than educational purposes and was filmed without a script or any planning whatsoever. Also, these are two fully intact males that do not normally interact with each other and aren't "friends" per se. Therefore, we keep them both on a tight leash and don't give the opportunity for any stupidity from either one.

In this video, we give your our opinion on the two breeds and you get to see both breeds in close proximity to each other to get a better idea on how they stack up against one another. I'm a big fan of both breeds but think the Rottweiler is a bit of a safer bet when it comes to temperament if you were to buy one for your family. Cane Corsos are notoriously protective of the homestead possibly to a fault. In short, they can be very dangerous due to their short fuse and are highly suspicious of strangers. Couple that with their incredible size, strength, and very high pain tolerance they are very easy to get cranked up and very hard to bring back down.

Rottweilers are also extremely powerful animals and more than capable of protecting a house and family based on their size and intimidation factor alone. However, I think they are a little more stable with temperament and attitude and are less likely to blow a fuse when a stranger comes to the house. Also, I believe they can be more handler sensitive and responsive to corrections and discipline.

Both can make excellent family pets if you know what you're doing. If you don't, and you fail to train them than they can also become a serious liability.

I’m only 5’ and I take my corso with me everywhere. The looks I get are so great. She makes me feel safe and powerful. She’s so incredibly smart too 7 months and pretty much completely reliable on basic commands.

Always a Rottweiler. My blood in my heart pumps different, when I see a Rottweiler. Now I have my third rescued-Weiler and the develpment from a starved Rotti to a little happy tank is so wonderful. They are so goofy. Love it. And they do not know about their weight.

I've owned Rottweilers all my life, have 4 now. They can have the temperament you speak of the corso has, its more of a breed line for both dogs. But you are correct on the dogs being very protective. Rotts are always on guard with strangers. great video

You have explained why I just adopted a Komondor. She's going to weigh around 100 to 110 lbs. They are fast athletic and able to take on a wolf. All people see is silly mop dog. I love my Cane Corso, he is my heart dog, but I live in a small town and wear a uniform. I don't need the judgement or the liability that comes with a Corso. Thank you for saying their name correctly.

People are so ignorant, i recently rescued a rotty hes now 2 years old i have a 2 year old daughter and ive raised them together. My 25 lb little girl takes over the leash on my dog like its nothing. I see way more issues with small dogs than big dogs.

The way you pronounce cane Corso is correct since it’s an Italian dog

Do you recommend having dog spayed or neutered? Will it effect home protection capable?

Thanks for vid.

Is it really fair to compare 9, 5 years old dog with 1 yo dog? Mental level.

I have owned a cane corso and he came out amazing and perfect, thinking about getting a Rottie, do you think it will be about the same training or would it be easier or harder

Oh the more videos I see from you telling me not to get a Cane Corso the more i want to get one. I've had pits my whole life and I love them but my house has been broken into twice since my dogs died.... luckily I was home both times.... A corso seems like good insurance to me.

Yeah but they're so cute, just big teddy bears. My last Rott was 125lbs. Had Rotts all my life but never owned a Cane Corso but would love to. Both these breeds dont seem to be popular here in Calgary, AB.
