as much as the underwater combat annoyed me, i do still wish they had kept it, becuase it allows for lots of very interesting monsters.

Lagi without underwater combat is really not the same. Instead of fun attacks he just spams massive AOE lightning everywhere, completely losing the aforementioned ebb and flow he used to have. I honestly think that the wirebugs offer a good way of handling underwater combat so I hope they bring it back someday

Tri will always be my favorite Monster Hunter game. That game's atmosphere is of the charts. If anyone is interested, there are now private servers for the game. Unfortunately you can only play solo, but still, it's an option.

honestly, just having lagiacrus in a monster hunter game will never do it justice unless they bring water combat back. until that happens, lagiacrus will always seem like a stunted fight to me

My first flagship, lagiacrus will always be special to me.

Tri was my introduction to monster hunter, and I have Thalassophobia so it took me a long time to even fight lagiacrus. I remember I did most of the online quests long before I even saw Lagiacrus offline. To this day, for whatever reason Monter hunter Tri and Tri ultimate are the only games where my phobia doesnt matter. I really do miss the underwater combat, it was really good.

Man I started with 3 ultimate and this took me down a huge nostalgia trip of trying over and over to kill this thing with my base duel blades cause I didn’t know how to upgrade (cause who read tutorials right?) great video I really enjoyed it :)

That took me back way back when I didn't even know what a Fatalis was. Tri was my childhood and debut as a rookie. Never will I forget the first time swimming in the blue waters, watching the Epioth's gracefully swim around, before one was being torn apart by a Lagiacrus' jaws. Lagiacrus was my teacher as Nargacuga or Gore Magala is for others.

That thing had given me nightmares when I first saw it and I immediately fled the area. And I had a blast when I was finally strong enough to take it on. It was even my go to armor all the way through Tri, mixing the low and high rank armor sets. In 3U I was always seen in the armor of one of the three Lagias.

Seeing Mizutsune again and how they handled a huge leviathal like Almudron so well is giving me hope for a grand return. Fingers are crossed that he might rise out of the sea once more.

On a completely different note, I love the choice of music.

I will *never* forget the sheer terror of Lagiacrus interrupting my first ever hunt for Monster Guts playing my Dad's Friend's copy of the game. Lagiacrus' theme, to this day, is still one of the best ones for me with its sheer bombast, and like the mosnter itself, perfectly encapsulates a fraught and perilous fight at sea.

This really was an interesting and great breakdown of Lagiacrus. I hope you continue to make this style of content :)

I'm so glad I found your videos, as someone that started with World, you're making me want to play all these older games. Holy hell Abyssal Lagiacrus, such a sick name and it looks so cool!

I think Lagiacrus would best fit in MH6 with the revamped return of underwater combat. It's my favorite monster (Abyssal specifically) and I just can't stand seeing it in a fully landlocked setting. I also wouldn't mind all that much if they did the Somnacanth method of having it "pseudo-swim" through shallow water. In any case, fantastic video! I loved the discussion on cultural influences.

I still remember High Rank Lagiacrus being extremely hard in the Flooded Forest in Tri, not just because the damage it did, but also because of the lack of visibility, but in single player it's extremely satisfying to fight, and eventually conquer!

Lagiacrus is my favourite monster in Monster Hunter.
It's not necessarily my favourite monster to hunt, though it's very fun.
I'm just in love with it's design, and the art surrounding it is absolutely beautiful.
Lagiacrus is the reason why I want underwater combat to return to the game.

Another great video, very well made. I've never played Tri myself, but I've been meaning to. I hear lots of good things about it, and it just seems like a great game

I miss Monster Hunter Tri. My first exposure to the series, and personally, I loved the underwater combat. It was fresh and exciting, and the creatures were glorious to behold!

Underwater combat and exploration, as ridiculous as it was, was great. I loved MH Tri and still have it.

I kind if wish they had doubled down on underwater combat
I get why they didn't, double the work for something most players dont like, but games need to trow curveballs from time to time so the player doesn't get to confortable resting on his laurels and underwater combat fills that role by fliping the table changing the rules making you relearn everything you took for granted like it's your first hunt again

Great and informative video! I really hope we see Lagi brought back for the next MH game.

Love this analysis of monster design, it’s such a masterful and yet underappreciated element of the series. That’s a sub from me
