Nice to watch 🙂and made me think of my cotoneaster which I dug up from the side of the road last year (probably some birds that dropped seed or berry). It have not yet shown any buds swelling after winter. So needless to say I am bit worried as it is soon April. But perhaps it is normal it doesn't come earlier here in the cold north (Sweden).

I think you will need to lose the stub (you know that) and carve a bit of deadwood and preserve it (wood preserver and or lime sulphur) .. but eventually it will all rot away regardless. I was thinking you could do an airlayer to save the nice little tree, and start over with new radial roots with no rotting wood to worry about. Regardless, I think it has character… just not longevity in it’s current form. Great job and great video as always Mike!

Thank you for the correction or acknowledgement of your "right there" statement. Always been a pet peeve of mine or atleast maximum frustration when people are directing you to their "right there" as to what were looking for🤦🤣...truly hilarious dude. Awsome videos. I enjoy your videos and learning curve(s) as I've been also learning bonsai in last two years. Completely addicted and invested now to this great hobby. Thanks man!

I love the monster base! Time will whittle it down, you’re right. Enjoy it while it’s there. In the mean time, one idea would be to gnaw away under the base, get it back to a live vein, then repot it. Could help get the roots back under control and save you from a major chop decision in the next 2-5 years.
Either way, I dig what you got going on here, Toy!

Mike I think the root over rock is the way to go by the looks of those roots.

The areas that you tucked rocks into should be left open for wild life; the little white rocks could be a family of bunnies!
