NEVER gonna work unless you are root. That´s why he does not answer questions and does not show getprop after setprop.

I've try like you do, but nothing changed after i enter the command "setprop get.hostname MyDevice", then i type "getprop set.hostname" it show the default hostname again, any solutions ?

Is the auto-generated hostname random or based on something else? It's too long for MAC address.

This method does not work on modern Andoid devices. Root is needed to fix the hostname to something else. See the following link:
