Strangely DVD Audio wasn't mentioned, which was a arrival to SACD but in 24/192 PCM.

I recall SACD's release. People were still griping about CD's poor quality in comparison to a brand new piece of vinyl on its first play. SACD was finally the true digital rival to vinyl or something like that. The Miles Davis "Kind Of Blue" SACD remaster was one of the big releases.

Sony needed a new cash-cow to replace their soon to be out of copyright CD. They had the DSD material captured for archive and decided based on the quality and the ability to control copying to go for SACD.

It wasn’t Sony, it was Philips. They went to Herbert von Karajan and ask how much time a CD should run uninterrupted. HE told them Beethoven’s 9th, about 70 minutes.

Whether or not DSD ever makes it big again, the slow-burn fads of ambisonics and ultrasonics are definitely changing the way people approach hi-res audio. It's just too bad that the engineering is almost impossible to do without clamping someone's head to a particular space, like Clockwork Orange. I don't know if we'll ever see them mainstream.

FWIW SACD had some incredible releases, as did DVD-A, despite being much less cutting-edge tech. There is just nothing like being surrounded by a real wall of sound finished by audiophile engineers, not a stereo expanded to 6 channels with a generic Dolby algorithm. It was worth pushing the state of the art. Sometimes even if you don't really make it big it's worth proving that you were right, so someone else can take it up for people tired of Youtube quality.

Dsd is brilliant if done right SACD was end all format but no one got behind it.I still get shivers after I listen the Dead can Dance SACD box set on mofi records

Sorry to say but it was the most underrated audio systems making company ever that made the CD and SACD! The brand was The CD began it's life in Eindhoven, The Netherlands! The went to Sony to set a standard for it and the needed an ally. Philips made wonderful audio equipment. You should've heard the DAC's of Philips CD players realy top notch. It had warmth where other DAC's sounded harsh! Philips loudspeaker where also realy great. Btw Philips invented the Compact Cassette and DCC Digital Compact Cassette too. The mini disc was also made by Sony under Philips rights because it was sort of a Compact Disc. They made a great video system Video 2000 it was a cassette which you could turn around and had another 4 hours playing time and the best video picture of all 3 standards. Btw they made the first ever VCR for home use. So please do mention Philips next time!

I have written an algorithm for detailed analysis and after filtering all of the odd sense harmonics and re dithering of "the moment" - the simulation crashed time after time in the same logic event code:

I think the DSD players were too expensive, not built into cars, and that made it hard for many of my friends to justify it. It was just out of reach.

Isn’t this system using PCM internally??? It occurs to me it’s impossible to do any meaningful mixing or other audio processing without having to use PCM. And if the signal is in PCM, a lossy transcoding to DSD seems not really making sense or what? Why not just distribute the actual bit perfect PCM from this gear?

I know that down sampled to pcm I even think they sound better.
