My gardening style is reuse as much biomass as possible. That means being opportunistic right along with the opportunistic plants that persist. For example, I encourage and tend large stands of wild bears foot daisy because they are bee/butterfly magnets and easy to remove by hand. I rip out Bidens alba even though bees love them because they don't come out with an easy tug and their seeds ruin most clothing. I tolerate the exotic mimosas because their seeds are sterile. Most of the flowering lilies came to me on neighborhood walks to scavenge curbs and ditches. Ruderals come to us for free in shit less soil. Why reject the ones that play nice together, pull up easy enough, and don't get in our hair?
