Scots are being forced to "remortgage their homes" to pay for private healthcare due to massive waiting times for some NHS procedures, Anas Sarwar has said.

The Scottish Labour leader said 40 per cent of patients who underwent hip or knee replacement surgery in Scotland last year had relied on the private sector - at a cost of more than £10,000 each.

Speaking at First Minister's Questions, he said 39,000 patients had been treated privately in the last 12 months, in addition to the many more people also using private dental surgeries.

The number of People who self fund for private health care in Labour run Wales are 30% higher than in Scotland, in Tory England the figure is 15% higher than in Scotland.
In Scotland 0.5% of the Scottish NHS budget goes to private health care.
In Tory England 7% of the English NHS budget goes to private health care
In Wales Mark Drakeford the First Minister of Wales said that the Welsh NHS is under great pressure with a large backlog of people waiting for treatment because of the pandemic and £1.2 billion of Westminster Tory budget cuts to Wales.
Yet the London Labour branch office manager in Scotland Anas Sarwar says that the pandemic and Tory Westminster £1.7 billion cuts to the Scottish budget doesn't affect Scotland.
Britnat Tories and Labour support Brexit that cut the number of skilled European health workers who went home because they didn't feel welcomed and are no longer available.
Three jobs Dross the London Tory branch office manager in Scotland should have a word with his boss and Westminster Tory ministers that say that the 7.1 million English people waiting for English NHS treatment is because of a large backlog of English people because of the pandemic.

The nhs is 2 tier here in England . I was refused cataract treatment on the nhs and had to pay £6, 000 while people i know in Surrey got treatment faster than me on the nhs with test results that were less urgent than mine and that was at the height of the pandemic. The surgeon was dumfounded and wrote to ask why i was refused nhs treatment but had no reply.

If there is a 2 tier system, you can bet Mr Sarwar won't be in any of them. He'll go private.

I work in the eye industry and I've noticed a massive increase in private cataract surgery in Scotland, also its more expensive than England for cataract operations

It will do soon.
Those that can afford to pay for it and those that have to wait for a doctor to be free to look at them.

Yeah Scotlands NHS is running just fine, when 40 percent of those needing hip replacements went private rather than wait up to two years for an operation. What does it say about Scotlands NHS, when people who have probably paid NI all their working life, have to shell out £12, 000 - £13, 000 to get an operation because they are in so much pain they cannot wait two years for the health care they paid all their lives for.
Sturgeon maintains its a free service, only if you are willing to take the chance you will not die before you get treatment.
So if 40 percent of those that needed hip ops went private, why is the waiting list not getting shorter —- oh I forgot, it’s the same surgeons making loads of cash doing private hip ops, that do the NHS ops. So they are to busy making money to attend to the NHS waiting list. Nawww there isn’t a two tier health service in Scotland. A joke of a government.

If the Scottish government caused the crisis in NHS Scotland then why does it also exist in England and Wales?

Its time the English government stepped up, If a local council had behaved as the SNP have, not talking of the referendum, talking about the way they have managed Scotland’s affairs since they took over, they would have been removed until the economy of that area was in a working condition just like Derick Hatton was in Liverpool also there should be a complete English investigation as to where all the money provided by the U.K has gone.
With regards to the so called referendum we should follow Spain’s example and stop pussy footing around.

I reckon this Muslim that's not indigenous can actually afford private healthcare. So he would know loads about the issue.
