The Philippines has lifted the travel ban for Taiwanese nationals over the COVID-19 outbreak in what is a victory for Taiwan''s government. The Philippine government said Friday that after rounds of assessments, it had decided to lift the entry ban it imposed earlier this week, effective immediately. On Monday, the Philippines had extended its China travel ban to Taiwan, on grounds that Taiwan was part of China pursuant to the "One China" principle. The move drew a sharp backlash from Taiwan''s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The ministry threatened countermeasures, such as suspending visa waiver schemes and migrant worker applications, and terminating cooperation in agriculture and fishing. The Philippines labor secretary had reportedly argued in favor of lifting the Taiwan ban, to avoid hurting the 150,000 Philippine migrant workers living in Taiwan.

Back in 1971, the Republic of the Philippines led by the administration of President Ferdinand E. Marcos voted against UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 which shove the ROC's seats out of UN in favor of the Communist PRC. It's about time we help Taiwan and ROC again.
