A lot of people don't know that "v-tuber" really did mean "virtual youtuber". Youtubers generally create content through uploads. It was Nijisanji and Hololive that popularised streaming and eventually led to vtubers becoming v-streamers.

The west at the time of Kizuna Ai benefitted from the fact that YouTube had done something right for once (temporarily). YouTube had the community subtitle features where her fandom could subtitle her video mere hours after she would upload thanks to her turning on that feature. YouTube of course ditched that feature because the people who run YouTube are idiots. That might be one of the main causes of her diminishing viewerbase of the time (language barriers).

Tbh I miss Vtuber Videos. I prefer Edited Videos over Streams in general. streams have so much filler. witch is why i dont watch streams. i watch YouTube or other Edited Clipped forms of Videos because there is no Filler
