In observance of #WorldGlaucomaDay (on March 12) and #WorldGlaucomaWeek (March 9-15), 𝐒𝐑𝐌𝐒 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 (𝐈𝐌𝐒), Bareilly is spearheading a vital initiative to raise awareness about this ‘silent thief of sight’. In this regard, we speak to 𝐃𝐫 𝐍𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚 𝐌𝐞𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐫𝐚, Professor & Head Department of Ophthalmology at SRMS IMS, who emphasizes upon the critical importance of early detection, regular eye checkups, and preventive care in combating glaucoma, a leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide.

“Glaucoma often progresses unnoticed until significant vision loss occurs. That’s why awareness and timely intervention are crucial”, says #DrNeelima. She highlights that regular eye screenings, especially for high-risk individuals, can help detect glaucoma early and prevent permanent damage.
